Benefits of Whiteware Research Center Membership

·         Participation in an interactive and cooperative forum of companies with shared  industrial concerns.

·         Reduced cost of funding long term or high-risk pre-competitive research.

·         Guidance over the direction of research to ensure optimum relevance and value.

·         Timely technology transfer

·         Early access to potential co-op and career ceramic engineering students.

·         Improved technical support services to customers.

·         Access to the New York State College of Ceramics resources to overcome and solve emergency manufacturing problems.

WRC Research Project Selection and Oversight

The Industrial Liaison Board, the WRC Director, and the faculty investigators meet twice each year to review projects currently funded by the WRC and to entertain new proposals (submitted by the faculty) based on research agenda outlined by the WRC strategic plan.  Funding is the allocated to projects based on a voting process within the Industrial Liaison Board.  One or two member companies are selected to work with the faculty investigator(s) on each project to keep the research focused on the needs of industry and to increase the potential for technology transfer. Reports and project updates are then presented to the entire membership as outlined in the WRC strategic plan.

Membership Fees for Industrial Companies

According to our charter, the membership structure for industrial companies sets the annual fee at $25,000 or $50,000, depending on company size, 10% of which is placed in a special account for analytical services each year.  (The analytical services account balance rolls into the next fiscal year so that monies can be accumulated for future projects.)  Benefits pursuant to that fee include new research proposal voting privileges; access to all research data generated in completed and ongoing projects; access to discounted analytical testing services; and a 15% discount on all industrial short courses offered through the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University.

Membership Fees for Raw Materials Companies

According to our charter, the membership structure for raw materials companies sets the annual fee at $6,000. Benefits pursuant to that fee include access to all research data generated in completed and ongoing projects; access to discounted analytical testing services; and a 15% discount on all industrial short courses offered through the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University.
